A new novel featuring British comic book legend Bryan Talbot needs your support

The Unauthorised Biography of Ezra Maas is crowdfunding now through Dead Ink Books and needs your support to become a reality.

The debut novel by Newcastle writer and journalist Daniel James, The Unauthorised Biography of Ezra Maas is a compelling and suspenseful postmodern mystery about a journalist searching for the truth about the reclusive artist of the title who has disappeared without a trace.

Among those interviewed by Daniel in the novel is Bryan Talbot who discusses the challenges of working with the enigmatic Ezra Maas in the 1980s on a joint comic book project. Daniel said: “I had no idea about the connection between Bryan Talbot and Ezra Maas until I was deep into research for the novel. Bryan is a legendary writer and artist and the father of the British graphic novel so it was a pleasure to interview him in his studio about his recollections of Maas from their work together.

“Maas was first famous in the 1960s alongside the likes of Andy Warhol, but was incredibly reclusive and refused to give interviews or have photographs taken. He worked with some very famous collaborators during his career, but by the 1980s was only communicating via telephone from his studio mansion.”
